COUNCILLORS PARISH COUNCILLOR VACANCIES Applications are invited to fill two vacancies on the parish council for the remaining period of the term of office, which ends in May 2007. To be eligible for this voluntary, non-political position, you must be on the electoral roll for Fairburn and not have a criminal record. The time commitment is a minimum of about 2 hours per week up to whatever you wish to give. You must be available to attend the monthly meetings held on Monday evenings. Training will be given, but the key requisites are common sense and an interest in your local community. If you would like to apply for this interesting and rewarding position, please write to the parish council c/o the clerk, stating what contribution you would bring to the council. Swan Mere, Caudle Hill, Fairburn, WF11 9JQ. Please contact any of the councillors or the clerk for more information or a chat about the responsibilities of a parish councillor. FAIRBURN MINI-BMX AND SKATE PARK This facility is solely for the use of bicycles, skates and skateboards. The equipment is regularly inspected. Fairburn Parish Council cannot accept responsibility or liability for any claim, loss or damage whatsoever which may arise resulting from the use of this facility except so far as provided by statute. Conditions of Use:
This is your facility – please help to keep the site in good condition VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH YOUTH PARK SKIP Due to problems with the contractor and to budgetary considerations, the quarterly skip will be discontinued. Any residents who do not have their own transport to take bulk items to the Ferrybridge Waste and Recycling Facility should contact the parish council for advice. COUNCILLORS’ SURGERIES These will be held on the following dates at the community centre 10-10.30 am: SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER Fairburn electors will have the opportunity to speak to a parish councillor. ROAD THROUGH FAIRBURN Mr Alistair Snart from RMS gave a briefing at the last Parish Council meeting. In order to secure the police agreement to the reduction of the speed limit to 40 mph (the parish council has been lobbying for an even lower one), some compromises have had to be made. The speed limit of 40 mph will remain just north of the northern roundabout, but will finish opposite the community centre, where it will become a 60 mph limit. The road will also be narrowed by a central hatching and a marked cycleway. There is no possibility of a pelican crossing. On 4 October a speed survey was taken. If the 85 percentile speed is less than 35 mph, a zebra crossing will be installed near Gauk Street. If 85% of vehicles travelled at more than 35 mph, then it will be deemed too dangerous to have a zebra crossing. We will pass on the results of this survey when we have them.
ALLOTMENTS Allotments are available for Fairburn residents at Bickerdyke Terrace in Kippax. A full plot of 300 square metres will cost £26 per annum. Please contact Lynne Rogers at Leeds City Council on 0113 395 7432. The alternative to this is for the parish council to lease land from Selby District Council, which could be anywhere in the District area and would be a great deal more expensive.
DOG FOULING There is still a problem with dog fouling in the village. It is the responsibility of the dog owner to clean up after their dog. Most dog owners do this; however, there are a number of people who do not. Failure to clean up after your dog can result with a fine up to £1000. |
