Unlike many bells, the bell in St Jame Church is fixed and it is the clapper that moves The bell tower is was repaired around 1948 whe the church was reroofed. These repairs were paid for by fundraising undertaken by the Horse Leaping competitions that were organised jointly by Mr Anthoy Making and the Church and Horse Leaping Committee. The bells clapper was repaied having suffered from corrosion in time for the Melenium celebration in 2000 by Mr Guy Cox of Swillington The bell rope can be seen going into the roof behind the lead. The lightening concuctor can also be seen travelling from the cross down the side of the church.
